| Headline: | The role of Agriculture in climate change |
| Description: | Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) confronts tremendous challenges. Human activity in the region has altered ecosystems, largely to meet demands for food, fresh water, timber, fibre and fuel. The Millennium Ecosystem Assessment has concluded that about 60 % of the “ecosystem services” are being degraded or used unsustainably. It is observed that environmental sustainability in agriculture is no longer an option. The crucial challenges are conservation of biodiversity, mitigation of climate change and the global shift towards bioenergy. |
