Description: The Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) is an apex organization in Sub-Saharan Africa that plays a major advocacy role for agricultural research and development by forging strategic alliances with and between its stakeholders, the African national agricultural research systems (NARS), sub-regional organizations (SROs), the Advanced Research Institutions (ARIs), civil societies, investors and other partners, for improved food security and poverty alleviation, while safeguarding the natural resource base. FARA’s vision is for African agriculture to become vibrant and competitive in international market growing by at least 6 % per annum by the year 2020.
FARA complements, at the continental level, the innovative activities of the national and sub-regional research organizations to deliver more responsive and effective services to their stakeholders. It serves as the knowledge hub and voice of Africa on agricultural research for development.
FARA’s Secretariat started functioning in July 2002, but FARA has been built by a coalition of African research and development stakeholders in 1991 and was operating through SPAAR until 2001.
